Hi,

The suspension on my mazda 5 is really noisey, every time I go over a speed bump even at a very low speed it sounds as if the car is going to fall apart.

Is anyone elses like that or is it a fault/problem?

 

Is this in a cold climate? If so, get used to it. Mine squeaks all winter below 30 degrees. I haven't taken it to the dealer to ask them if they could lube anything that is squeaking. It may be a known problem that they can fix. Let me know if this is the case.

 

In April 2006 I posted the following on the What Car website's owner review page (http://www.whatcar.co.uk/car-review-readers.aspx?RT=731)for the Mazda 5:

I was alarmed when I read about owners who have experienced problems with speed humps, especially as I drive over 66 of them every morning just doing the school run! I wrote to Mazda UK, and would like to reproduce here part of their reply to me: "Having discussed this matter with our Technical Department, I am advised that this information was relayed back to the factory for investigation, where modified parts to alleviate this issue have now been produced. These modified components are currently available and can be ordered by our dealership network, should this matter become apparent. However, as a point of information, current production vehicles are already being fitted with the modified parts in question"

So I would assume that as far as Mazda UK are concerned, cars newer than April 2006 should have been built without the noisy suspension, and those built before this date (approximately) should be modified to fix a known problem.

That said, my car (delivered September 06) sounds like an old banger when the temperature drops below 4C. Lucky I live in Manchester then.

These cars, including the 3 series, do transfer suspension noises into the cabin. You have to remember though that Mazda builds cars that are fun to drive but perhaps not as civilized as some others. These are fun-factor economy cars, not BMW"s that cost three times as much. The bushings in the suspenion are perhaps a little harder than your average luxury liner and the body not as well insulated either. Think old Triumph or MG, or better still, a Lotus.
If you are looking to quiet the car you will have to resign yourselves to some work... the first is stripping the interior and door panels and addinglots of insulation pads to all the surfaces.
Another trick I know of is to use spray in foam behind the wheel well liners, @ the firewall, rear bulkheads and floor.Be sure to keep that away from any hot surfaces though. (i.e. engine, exhaust, etc...)
And you might also try a generous amount of silicone spray on the suspension contact points and especially the bushings.
But also keep in mind that all this added weight will reduce the fun factor and probably the fuel mileage you are now getting. It"s a trade off, like everything else in life.

Hi, our 2006 Mazda 5 SportNav with 31k miles has started making a noise over speed bumps. After looking underneath the car, the rear o/s damper is covered in oil. This means it's popped!

 

My July 08 Mazda Sport has just had the near side rear (UK) damper replaced under warranty (they didn't replace the pair as I was hoping) at 18½k miles. It was a ½hour job, i didn't have time to read a magazine after bimpling around hte showroom looking at the cars. The ride was immediately quieter and smooth.
