Is this TSB referring only to US/Canada models (ie not Europe)?

Dave.

It is a US service bulletin but some of the problems would be common on all cars. I think this particular one is only for petrol models.

My first bet would be the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)

Same here. Our '06 has 50k miles now and it has kept doing it all through out the years. When we took it in last time over a year ago, they could not replicate the problem. Getting ready to take it in tomorrow for general maintenance/tune-up and will likely ask them about it again.

'Stalling' is a serious problem, but SURGING can get you killed. My wife had a very serious engine surge incident today at a stop light whereby her 2010 Mazda 5 suddenly reved out of control and surged ahead stiking the vehicle in front of her. The impact only cracked her windshield, but could have been far worse. Suppose she had surged out into traffic!? Or any number of dangerous scenarios could occur. Now she is rightfully afraid to drive the vehicle. Tomorrow she will take it into the dealer. But upon reading other in these forums of drivers with similar problems, I am not confident they will be able to pinpoint the problem. ANY ADVICE would be welcome. Thank you.
