Default Mazda 5 4x4

Hi everyone, I'm new-ish to the forum and this is my first discussion thread.

I love my 2008 Mazda 5 Sport. So much so, I shipped it from the UK to Australia when I moved here in 2013. This is the second M5 I've owned, and love that it is a 6 speed versus the 1st Gen model I owned previously. I love the practicality of the twin electric sliding doors and the huge luggage space when the middle seats are also down. Now that my hobby activities are going to take me further out into the outback (not off-roading !) the only things I wish it had are 1) more ground clearance, 2) 4x4 or at least AWD for un-sealed roads and crossing scrubby paddocks.

So, I've started looking at 4x4 vehicles that are still family friendly and have features I want. If I go down the route of a 2012/13 Toyota FJ Cruiser then they go for around A$30,000. After a trade-in or sale of my M5, I'll be out of pocket by at least A$15,000 as the M5 is an import and it wasn't sold here.

So my question is, forgive me if its a bit bonkers, but has anyone ever converted a Mazda 5 to 4x4 and lifted it or put it on airbags? Could it be done?

Welcome to the forum.
I'll follow this post with interest but I think your asking the impossible. Maybe I'm wrong.

Do you want or need a 4X4? How about AWD like a CX-5 or CX-9?
