Smile Mazda 5, 16" rims

We just picked up our first Mazda and it has 16" rims with 205/55,R16 tires, just looked for a door tag for tire size and no sticker (should there be one). I read on another post that you can use 17" or 16" as the drive train is the same on all models...is that true?
next question is if 16" protege rims will fit on our mazda 5. bolt pattern
Thanks in advance.

The bolt pattern for the 2012 Mazda5 is 5x114.3 (or "5x114"). Don't know if the Protege has the same.

My GT model came with 17" wheels, but I promptly replaced them with 18x7.5 (48mm offset) ADRs, which fit perfectly.

doesn't changing the rim size mess up the speedo & fuel control system as well as the auto trans shifting?

Not if the tires you select have roughly the same diameter as the stock tires, which in my case is about 25 inches. Even if you stayed with the stock 16" wheels and tires but moved up from 205/55-16 to 215/55-16, the new tires would theoretically result in a 1.74% pessimistic error on your speedometer (101.74mph actual vs. 100.00mph on your speedometer).

According to tirerack.com the Protege5 has the same 5x114 bolt pattern as the new Mazda5. I also just checked on edmunds.com and the 2003 Protege5 came with 195/50-16 tires on 16x6 wheels, whereas the 2012 Mazda5 Sport has 205/55-16 tires in 16x6.5 wheels.

You do NOT want to downgrade your wheel width.

Yes the Protege has the same 5x114.3 lug pattern. And yes like he said you can change the size of your rim and have no issues as long as you keep the outer diameter of the tire the same.

The exception to this is if you're getting a winter setup. It's actually advantageous to have narrower tires for driving in snow.

Default Rim question ?

I own a Mazda5 with 16" rims 16x6.5
If i buy 16 rims 16x6 from a protege will they bolt right on?
These rims are to be used with our snow tires.

Bumping up this old thread hoping for an answer. I have a 2012 Mazda 5 Sport model that came with 16" rims and 205/50/r16 tires. I just got 4 winter tires but are sized 205/50/r17. Does anybody know whether I can just buy extra rims and mount these tires on the Sport version? TIA.
