Maybe I shouldnt have purchased a 5 ?
Hi folks,
This is my 1st post here. Not sure any of you can help me. I purchased a 2006 Mazda 5, with 60,000 kms from a Mitsubishi dealer, in Ottawa, On, Canada. I took delivery of the car on Saturday. Its is now Monday. Before purchasing the car, I did take it to my mechanic who looked it over. Here is what has transpired since Saturday. I'm sure the problems existed beforehand but were missed:
1) loud clunking sound in the rear end when travelling over a bump. It has gotten quite cold in the last 2 days and noise wasnt present when I 1st looked at the car.
2) passenger rear door lock doesnt work. This was on the bill of sale to have them fix. It was functional when I purchased it, as they claimed to fix it, but now its inoperable.
3) there is a foreign noise coming from the engine/tranny when accelerating slowly from 1st gear, goes away, then noise appears when shifting into 2nd gear. Any idea what this is? I know you have to hear it to understand, but almost sounds like someone is crumpling paper when it happens.
I brought the car back to the dealer who is looking at it now. However, I have owned the car for not even 2 days. Isnt there some sort of implied warranty? The salesperson did tell me that there is a 30 day warranty on the car, but nothing in writing.
Thoughts? Help?
Thanks,
Tim

2) They should fix it for nothing
3) Not a mind reader. Could be anything from a fan belt, pulley, bearings
Good Luck
Hey, I do say that!! :-)
I installed Monroe Shocks not quite a year ago. So far they are perfect.
I also heard from the dealer ages ago that there was a TSB on the loud shock issue.. I dont think the fix was on the shocks themselves, but rather the area they bolt too - I don't totally understand it. They did a couple spot welds, and the loud creaks when going over speedbumps etc went away. I can't recall if this was on the front or the rear, but I do remember that it was only a real issue when cold. The spot welds solved that issue.
As for the tranny noise, I have not experienced that at all. I have read that some have issues with the clutch on a few 5's. Perhaps it is related to the clutch? I am not much of a help on this one.
It's been a couple weeks since you posted. Fill us in any details if you have any!
You wont regret the 5, unless of course yours turns out to be a lemon. Overall we love ours, but have had some unhappy moments.

Thanks for responding...appreciate that!
Well as an update....its been at the dealers for the last 2 weeks. They claim they cannot hear the noise in the front end and that the noise from the rear end is "typical". I dont buy that at all. However, they did replace the lock mechanism. Here is the issue which I didnt put in my 1st post.....the car has an awful smell, like a wet dog. Turns out that the detailer pressure washed the inside, let it sit for 5 days without drying it. When I picked it up, it smelled really bad, thinking it would go away. The dealer has tried everything to remove the smell, without any luck. I have requested a full refund. I am to find out today if they will give me my money back. I think I am entitled to it, seeing it didnt smell why I bought it. Their detailer caused this problem. It absolutely reeks horribly. I love the car, too bad really, because i love how it looks, drives, and handles. Heres hoping.....

If they caused the smell, they should definitely be responsible for that!! If they wont do anything, I would take it to an upholsterer to get a quote on re-carpeting the whole thing, then take that quote, and your dealer to small claims.
Take them to People Court, or Judge Judy, and let us know, so we can watch you kick their butts.

Looks like i'm still retaining pertinent info!

Well, thanks for your replies. The dealer has refunded my money! It took a while to actually get to this point, but they gave it all back.. Mind you, they "misplaced" the stuff I had in the trunk. At least I got my $8500 back. The hunt continues!
