I think I have to replace the passenger seatbelt retractor
Hi! I have a 2008 Mazda 5. Love the car, van, er. whatever it is.
I'm getting a code on my airbag, 34 This indicates resistance high on the passenger side seatbelt retractor unit.
From what I understand, I need to replace the entire seatbelt assembly.
Anyone run into this before? I found the electronic manuals and feel confident I can mess this up myself.
Would welcome anyone's suggestions before I get started, or suggestions on where to purchase the parts too... WOW. Expensive!
Thanks!

I would first check the wiring and the wiring harnesses. A little bit of corrosion alone could increase the resistance.
I would call some junk yards before shelling money out for new pieces.

I know the one will be near the preretractor - is the other one under the hood?I guess I gotta spend some time in those manuals.

Well, I am sorry to say I tried but gave up...
Got the preretractor out, but my multi meter was trashed due to corroded batteries. So, I was unable to test whether it is the wiring harness or the preretractor... The wiring harness looked good. I'm surprised, however, that ( if i read the manuals correctly) there is no apparent way to test the preretractor itself...??!!?? :/
I'm very nervous about setting off one of the airbags... Gonna let this one be handled by the experts.
