Default Front Sway Bar Bushings

2007 Mazda5. 108,000 miles. I'm getting alot of klunking in the front end. I had it inspected and was told the front sway bar bushings are bad. (There is a TSB on this.) The bushings are cheap but the installaion cost is about $300. I'm looking at doing it myself. The book says I need to drop the front cross member to do this but as its a split bushing I'm thinking I may not have to.

So has anyone out there actually done this and how hard was it? Did you have to lower the cross member or was there enough access to get in there and do it as is?
