Default ECU Reset

According to my owners manual, an ECU reset needs to be performed after an oil change in a Mazda 5 Diesel Sport.

Am I right to say this can be done by disconnecting the battery and pressing the brake 10 times (to discharge any stored voltage)?

Does any other dance need to be done for a simple oil and filter change? Your advice is appreciated.

As far as I know you have to reset the ECU on diagnostic equipment. Disconnecting the battery etc. may clear the fault memory but it won't reset the DPF.

Thanks for alerting me.
It looks as though I'll need an IDS or Carman tool for that...
Are there any alternatives to that?

The more hoops I am made to jump through, the more convinced I become to leave the circus.

I've a Texa Navigator which won't reset it, as yet. I'm going down to my local supplier in a few weeks time to try a few different brands of diagnostic tools to see if any will do the job. Their rep owes me the odd favour

I need to find some indies that have the tools to do the reset.

The dealer is quoting £140 to do an oil and filter with the required reset. That is beyond a joke. It's more like a mugging when you consider other cars get this task done for less than £35. Mazda may see my money in the short term...

So...My car is 2003 Mazda 6 3.0L V6 S (AT).I have problem with ECU,ECU number is "ECU PCM Brain Computer Engine BDD3 AJ58 18881 G 3.0L V6 S ECM".The thing is that Ecu's one of the cheap/micro scheme burned, and because of this one of the cylindrs stopped working(but car is still running). My question is next:Is there any difference and if it is what difference is between 2.3L ECU's cheap and V6 3.0L cheap???Can I use 2.3L ecu cheap for V6 3.0L???
