Default 5 a Lemon? Ideas?

Do we have a lemon? Our 2008 5 is frustrating me. So far all work has been covered, so we are not out of pocket, but the latest problem has me thinking about selling this thing before the warranty runs out...

Lots of little issues that havent bothered me (rear wiper arm, gas cap, headlight, power window alignment issue, and a few other small things), but now 4 major issues, in order:

1.) Rear Left Shock
2.) Leak Detection Pump
3.) Power Steering Pump
4.) And today, the Rear Right Shock.

These bottom 4 would each cost more than $500 each if I had to pay for them, and I am worried that that this car that we love, that suits our lives perfectly, will turn into a money pit. Any comments, ideas? similar situations?

Also, any recommendations on a similar type vehicle for replacement?

All I have to say is thank god for warranty, and thank god we don't have the whole tire issue...

Power steering pump is a recall issue also affecting the Mazda 3 and is not likely indicative of future problems. The rear shocks can be purchased from places other than the dealer (Napa, Canadian tire, Lordco etc) for about 120 a pair and installed quickly and easily by a novice with hand wrenches. None of these issues should be remotely of enough concern to consider selling the 5.

If you bought new, an 08 GT is close to 30K out the door, but would not bring more than 20k on a private sale. 10k covers a lot of repairs. Keep the 5 and increase the service cycles to keep on top of those wear items IMHO

I am thinking we will definately hang onto the 5 and cross our fingers. i definately agree with what you are saying - just frustrating to buy a new vehicle and have issues.

I see you are on Vancouver Island! Where abouts? I'm in Cumberland.
