Default 2014 5 12V accessory outlet problem

Recently picked my wife up a 2014 5 Touring and am having an issue with the front and rear 12V outlets.

With a 12V phone charger in the outlet, either front or rear, and driving down the road or just pounding on the dash or rear panel, I can see and hear the phone start and stop charging. Also any slight movement on the charger will cause a charging disconnect.

I've tried multiple chargers, cables and two phones and can duplicate it in the Mazda. If I take the stuff over to my Nissan, everything works fine.

The 12V outlets in the Nissan and Mazda look similar. Both have that black plastic ring down inside to insulate the positive terminal.

I'd doubt that the front and rear outlets share a common ground but could they share the same 12V circuit?

Lastly, how do you access the front 12V outlet? Does that entire panel pop off and pull up? Trying to find some photos online.

Any comments, thoughts or redirects to other posts are appreciated.

You'd need someone with the '14 wiring schematic to tell you. Is it still under warranty? Why not let the dealer mechanics figure it out?

Default 12V Power Outlet with car charger

The outlet is rated at over 100 watts. Car chargers pull about 10 watts. This is not enough to keep the copper parts from oxidizing. So the outlet becomes hit or miss. You need to clean the center contact of the outlet, the one attached to the battery positive. It should be a golden color. I have successfully cleaned it using a number 2 pencil eraser. The best way is to insert the pencil into a cordless drill. Then run the eraser against the center contact for about ten seconds. You might try doing it counter-clockwise as well. Blow out the rubber dust and retry the car adapter. If this does the trick you might have to repeat it annually.

Would have been nice to have a gold flashed connector (basically gold plating on the copper) as it does not oxidize.

Run a dual straight from the engine compartment fuse box. Loop it through the fender and passenger door jam. You can add a resistor so it operates off the key. I run a laptop and portable satellite radio like that.
