2010 passenger side CV axle issues

Default 2010 passenger side CV axle issues

Trying to change out my CV. Axle because of a torn boot. Have done plenty of other vehicles before and other things have been simple on this car. End up getting the axle half out and I could not for the life of me get it separated from the hub. Does anybody have any tips? I've tried to look online, there's nothing holding it in.

1st, clean off the mushroom from your axle, then find/borrow/ hire a puller to press the axle out of the hub. Then buy yourself a replacement axle.

I was going to try that next, kind of afraid of breaking it to be honest. Already ordered a new axle prior to removing it from the car but was trying to at least salvage this one.

The second half of it is also stuck connected to the carrier bearing and I'm not sure how to get it out without removing all of it from the vehicle.

Guess I'm getting a new hub. The axel didn't budge at all

You really have been giving it a hard time. Nice mushroom. Perhaps if you had loosened the nut sprayed it with penetrating oil and driven it around for a few days it may have worked the rust loose but too late for that now. I'd try a press and if it moves cut the end off with an angle grinder and continue pressing. I'v never had one that tight though.

This all started from a ripped boot too. The struts were bad so I changed them, once I got the knuckle out I found out that the ball joint and in and outer tie rod were bad. So all that was a part. I would have had to put everything all back together with the axle in there. To me. It's worth it just to get another knuckle at this point.

Yea. New probably an arm and a leg but from a wrecker propably cheap. Lokks like you live in the rust belt so best buy outside the area or buy ithe spindle without the axle.

I'm not directly in the rust belt but the car is from one of those states originally. I just wonder if I need to change the bearing on the used one I get. Already have more sunk into this than originally anticipated.

There is another attempt by way of applying heat. In the shop we don’t have time to wait for the small chance penetrating oil will work so almost every time good old heat. Apply it to the outer parts when it is almost red hot a couple solid hits with a 5 lb hammer wins .
As for the shroooming We/I have repaired worse damage threads from mushroomed damage. Another easy but time consuming task if needed.

I might try once more tomorrow and break out the torch. Will the heat damage the wheel bearing? Was wondering if all of the banging hasn't damaged it already.
