Default 2006 Mazda 5 ABS tone reluctor ring problems...

Hi, first time poster here. Kind of new to Mazda.

I inherited a 2006 Mazda 5 with about 70,000 miles on it. Really nice car. My son has been driving it.

The ABS light stays on and the error code indicates LF ABS speed sensor fault. I changed the speed sensor, but in so doing I noticed there does not appear to be a tone/reluctor ring installed on the LF. To be more precise, when looking down the hole where the speed sensor is installed, I can see that there isn't a tone/reluctor ring.

My suspicion is that the axle was replaced at some time without a tone/reluctor ring installed on the axle. The axles from the major parts houses don't appear to come with a tone/reluctor ring pre-installed.

I can't seem to find a tone/reluctor ring available for this car. And since the replacement axles don't appear to come with a ring pre-installed, what to do?

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

When I replaced my CV axles the did not have the tone ring on them. I think the ring is in the hub.

Check the other side, but I think around that time Mazda went away from tone wheels to magnetic pickups in the wheel bearing.

Thank you. That's a really good idea. If indeed there was a switch to a magnetic pickup rather than a reluctor ring that would explain why there's no reluctor ring!!

Thanks, will check the other side and report back.
