Default Week old Mazda3, question about shifter.

Hi Everyone,

I've recently purchased a brand new 2008.5 Mazda3 (first car, first manual). So far I've felt comfortable learning the manual, rarely stall it and don't redline it/drive it hard.

The last 2 or 3 days i've noticed what I believe to be more resistance in the shifter when shifting between any gears, up or down. I've made sure i've been pushing the clutch in all the way and it's not making it hard to drive or anything, it just feels stiffer/rougher than it did for the first few days of this week/last.

I've been told if anything it should loosen up as i drive it, maybe this is in fact loosening up and I was used to a stiff shift. Whatever it is i find it less "smooth" to pop into gear.

Any ideas on what this could be? Am i imagining this? Is it nothing?

Thanks

^^ He probably gave up because the forum (for some reason) is not allowing any long replies to posts. I'm guessing he tried several times to post an answer for you but finally just got frustrated.

My shifter freed up a bit over time. I also did the free shifter mod soon after I bought it. Shifts became more sure. You can also get different spacers to go under the shifter platform.

I am selling my RKM short shifter. I only had it in for a day. I like my TWM better but the RKM is pretty nice too. 105$ shipped. With new RKM bushings and washers. Let me know if you or anyone is interested.
