Valve tap? Oh oh
Yeah, that's an old computer joke.
Computers are easy to deal with. One just has to think, what did I do in the last 15 minutes with this thing and just undo it.
Thanks for the info about the lot guys. They do have about 25 or 30 m3's in their yard though. If I catche them first thing in the morning. I should be good. Problem is I don't like to take time off work for this kind of bs.

This car is going back to the dealer to sleep overnight.
This noise is not normal and I am going back in the morning to make sure "they" hear what I hear. I also have some soft rubber on special order that I can place on my walls so I don't hurt my head anymore......

So, I went to the dealer, 45 mins before open. (Wife dropped me off) So, there I walked around for ahwile. Good news. No scratches or dents while car stayed overnight. Waited till the four people booked in their cars. Then took the service manager out to the cold car. Opened the hood and started the car. Nothing. Bitchin. So, as I was talking to him. The noise was starting to show itself. We kinda think it's the a/c belt. So, he said he would order one. One of my shop guys had a listen and thought it was the belt as well. It was funny. I was getting mad cause the car wouldn't make the noise. Then, after 2 mins of talking it started to build up. Then, after I closed the hood, and the normal engine noise was filtered with the sound proofing. It really became noticable out the r/s front wheel well. Then he heard it for sure. Which is good news. I am not crazy. My "dartboard" diagnosis needs work though.
Here is the question for the day. Does the a/c belt have a tensioner. I notice, but can't see without going under the car, that it is separate from the main belt. Seems to haveit'sown pulley at thecrank. It is serpintine belt, so I would think it would have one. If that's the case, maybe it is a tensioner. Maybe moisture is getting inside the tens bearing and making noise. Then, after 3 minutes it drys up and things are cool again.
Maybe I will ask our service manager if I can put it on the hoist. Not sure if it will drive on. It's a hoist for transport trucks. So the ramp is steep and my bumper might not clear it.

I just used the Mongomery dealership Mazda parts thing/ad here. Looked up the belt mechanism for my car. It looks like the A/C compressor does not have a tensioner. Alternator does.
Ummm.
Ummm.
I never really looked that closely at it myself, but it makes sense. The compressor has it's own belt and therefore it (the compressor) would also act as the tensioner/adjuster for that belt. Where as the other belt drives everything else, is much longer and would require a seoerate tensioner/idler.
Well so much for my dartboard diagnosis. The dealer finally fixed the problem. I had left it overnight with them again. They changed both belts and the main belt tensioner. Problem is solved.
Engine tap, huh, I need to get my ears fixed. (Too many years of loud music I guess)
I can finally close this &(& thread.

speaking of belts
does anybody know what the bottom belt is for? I've accidentally smoked the bottom belt and just curious as what it is for. The car did make it home but wondering if it is for the climate control or not?
No significant damage but the bottom belt attaches to the main wheel and the bottom wheel on the engine, plastic shield protecting the bottom portion is just cracked and hangin around for the ride.
Could use any input or advice.
