as of now our ecu's cannot be chipped, if your gonna spend 4k on a turbo kit id get the tripoint engineering kit, f2's kit is also nice but the tri-point is a little better, besides these people build the track mazda 6 thats won many races.

I used to have high hopes for hiboost sice they was the 1st one to come out with a proper turbokit and also the 1st to get the mazda3 into the 500whp and 10sec mark, but they have problems in providing working kits or even delivering them within a reasonable time, ive heard some ppl who have fully paid for the kit has yet to receive one for more then 5 months, there extremely hard to get into contact with as well, i wouldnt buy a single thing from them.

These things have been around for a coupla' years now and the general consensus is to not waste your money. I've seen them for a lot less than this too ($400??), but they all basically work the same way... full throttle only, but carefully worded. re: "IMMEDIATE and FULL 1psi BOOST AT ANY ENGINE RPM!" then you read the fine print.
In the mean time and under normal conditions, it just seems like it would act as an air restrictor, inspite of what they claim, which is pretty generic anyway. "DOES NOT RESTRICT YOUR INTAKE when not in operation (air-flow through 4.0" dia. RAM is equal to a 3.1 inch diameter straight tube)." On what engine? At what throttle position? Where are the dyno results to back these claims up?

I've also heard that they do more harm than good, and I would think this especially true if the charger is ahead of the MAF sensor which this one certainly is. I would much rather the air be pulled past the MAF than pushed.

Word of advise from me and the general Mazda populous from multiiple forums: STAY AWAY FROM THESE THINGS!!

 

Sell yours and get a Speed3 if you want to go fast in a 3.....seriously. You'll close to double your power, get better handling (18" wheels, lowered springs, stiffened swaybars), a limited slip diff, nicer interior, etc.... You'll probably spend less money going this route and end up with a much more reliable/nicer ride.

Difference in the average prices is $4863 I'm just sayin.......

I would suggest just getting the Speed3, or turboing your mazda3 with lower psi so you don't blow your engine. If you Turbo your mazda3, make sure you take the proper precautions and get the other parts needed for a proper turbo. DON'T go halfway on a project! You'll cause more problems than fun.

 

the speed 3 will also come with things like alcantara seats, more solid suspension, and more aggressive looking front end.

The only thing I don't understand is why they don't come out with a speed3 sedan?

 

many have asked the same question, if your going to get a speed 3 there are two versions:

07-09: the basic, with a better looking body, faster
2010: reduced engine performance for a smoother feel through rpm range (not sooner just not a abrupt surge of power), slight improvement on suspension, and a fk load more uglier

 

I talked to a mazda dealer because they had both in stock and I was interested in the difference. They said the 07 to 09 also has major torque steer and the newer ones eliminate that problem. The loss of power is mainly felt at the acceleration but overall it is a better car.
Thats what I heard. But the horsepower of the 2010 is less than the 07-09 correct?

And imo the 2010 msp3 is not as good looking as the older ones. The little hood bump does look cool though

Yes, I too have heard that the new tuning (both suspension and electronic) help eliminate torque steer, but I never ever heard the 1st gens had MAJOR torque steer, just a little bit. That's why the the electronic power reduction in 1st/2nd gears is there in the first place. And most journalists agreed that Mazda had really done their homework to get it right. That's not to say that there was nothing to improve upon.

 

The Mazda engineers did a fantastic job with the new engineering.The changes in the 2010 model were put in to improve the car for a reason. Not to make it slower and etc. Imo they did a fantastic job engineering their new msp3. But of course it is, thats why they released a newer speed3 right?
