Anybody have experiences with the hiboost or f2 turbos for the 2.0 liter Mazda3? What types of gains do these kits give and what else should I do for an increase in hp with the turbo? Any problems with these turbos?

I do, sorry I was too used to typing "I" when I post a thread.
It is actually my friend with a 2.0 liter engine that is looking for a turbo but he isn't part of this forum so I posted for him

 

Got it. I'm thinking the first question to ask is, what kind of transmission? If it's an automatic, probably be best to either leave it alone or to only go with a light boost amount, probably no more than two or three pounds unless he's also going to breathe on the transmission as well.

FWIW, every pound of pressure over ambient should yield somewhere in the neighborhood of an additional 1/14.7th of the engine's rated power (i.e. if the engine is rated at 100 hp and it is boosted by one pound, the peak rating should be somewhere in the vicinity of 114.7).

Now, if your friend likes to stir his own gears (and his car has three pedals under the dash), he can probably lean much more heavily on the boost and bring the power somewhere north (well north even) of 200 hp.

 

He does drive a 5 speed. If it was an automatic we wouldn't bother with a turbo lol.
But anyways, any experience with hiboost or f2?

 

hiboost has been out of the game for a long time due to poor customer relationship, extemely lengthy waiting periods on already paid for kits (upwards to 8 months), overall bland kit for such a high price. F2 has a great foothold and are great with the quailty the only other option other than building one yourself would be tripoint, these guys race mazda cars and are a professional race team so id put my trust in them. Personally i would rather build my own kit, i can save a couple of bucks and i can have it setup the way i want it from the start. Now from what i hear certain people have had the honda curse and end up losing 3rd gear, while others on up to 18psi have a stock trans and are doing just fine. I pretty much have a setup as to what to do and what to buy, shoot me a pm if you want some more info
