Default Transmission Fluid Question

Hi everyone,
When I recently got my oil changed at Grease Monkey the technician said that my transmission fluid was getting old and it needed to be flushed and changed and that would be $80. Not trusting this (not that he wasn't a nice guy, but I'm just always unsure about these things), I wanted to get your opinions on the matter. I have looked in the owners manual and I don't see anything about how often to change the transmission fluid, but also recently read an article (on the Internet, so who knows how trustworthy it really is) that sometimes car manufacturers leave out the information about the transmission fluid so that you break your transmission and have to buy a new one from them (again, who knows how trustworthy this article really is). But now I'm all sorts of confused. What do you guys think about how often, if ever, the transmission fluid needs to be changed in a Mazda3?

Thanks for your help!

I heard that you are supposed to flush your transmission every 30,000 in an automatic. I just flused mine at around 42000 and I don't think it was ever done before that. Just to be safe, do it every 30,000

if you want the trans to possibly last longer then yes change it every 30k miles, I on the other hand have NEVER changed the fluid nor filter and i still have the org trans, what you need to know is that not every car is built the same, even if we had the same year, model, options, and even drove the same there is still the possibility that what you do to yours may not work for mine.

How many miles do you have on your Mazda?

I'd at least change it every now and then...Show the Mazda some love my man.
