Default too good to be true?

given the high cost of replacement parts at the dealerships does anybody have experience with or have an opinion about ordering parts from places such as rockauto.com? Prices seem to be much lower but are you getting a good deal or are you getting what you pay for?

From my perspective, it depends upon the part; what parts are you looking to buy?

I feel that I should clarify my previous question as I am not a stranger to working on my own vehicles rather I was just pondering the quality of the various parts for sale from these vendors.

Like I said, "It all depends."

saying it all depends does nothing to tell what quality their parts are. They could be original quality or better or they could simply be inferior knockoffs with the factory look. I was simply asking if anyone purchased parts from such vendors and if the product was good or inferior.

Your question isn't simple in the least; different aftermarket stores and suppliers vary on quality. Like I asked before, what kind of parts are you looking for?

If you're looking for oil, filters, spark plugs, wires, O2 sensors, then it's a no-brainer from an aftermarket store, however, if you're looking for body parts, then OEM from the dealership is your best bet. For everything else, it depends on what you want to buy and what/where you buy it.

Well I know what I am saying so let me try again. Have you or anyone you know ordered a part from a vendor such as these and knew before the order was placed that the part you are buying is a good part or a cheap imitation. All this takes is a simple yes or no reply.

Look, I'm sorry for being guarded in my responses to you, but the facts are you can get crap or you can get very-very high quality parts; it all depends upon what you're ordering.

Order a bargain basement rebuilt starter and you'll be lucky if it lasts six months, order a top end remanufactured starter and it will have a good chance of lasting longer than the rest of the car.

Like I keep saying, it all depends; if that isn't good enough for you then I suggest you stick with buying your parts from a dealer.

Really! I have been around and worked on cars for the better part of 50 years and I understand what you are saying but it seems that you can't or will not acknowledge my extremely simple question so lets just call it a day. Thank you for your input.

You're pretty funny; I do everything I can do to help and you turn into a jerk. Good luck.
