2014 Squeal sound randomly
Hi all!
I have a 2014 Mazda 3 iTouring with 76K miles on it. Recently I've been hearing a squealing sound coming from the front end of the vehicle particularly around the wheels. (not engine / trans related) It's very random and does not necessarily happen on the same stretch of road all the time. It also does not affect driving condition at all. However, I have been noticing some patterns:
- It typically happens at low speeds 10 - 25mph and typically goes away and stays away for a while.
- It goes away once I apply the brakes.(all four are new and only have 7K miles on them)
- The sound is a consistent tone and does not get louder or softer based on speed. ( I would say medium based high pitched tone)
- The tone is similar to that of an almost worn brake pad.
- Can squeal while going straight,(more down hill although it has happened on slight up hills) and while turning.
At first I thought it was the clip holding the brake pads on barely rubbing on the rotor as I have a slight very very slight rim on the rotor. I'm ruling that out for now as I have taken it apart, swapped them, adjusted it several times and it appears to be sitting a good .25" away from the rotor. There's also no evidence of on the clip itself.
Any help is greatly appreciated! I usually do all of my own work so no holding back!

Glazed brake pads? Since they are so cheap consider just replacing the front brake pads with an oem compound.
It could be a caliper hanging up - when is the last time you changed out the brake fluid in the system?
Are you sure it's front wheels and not rear? Or something under the hood?
BTW, we had one of those, exact year and model, with a 6 speed stick. What a hoot to drive.
