I've always used a good synthetic (mobil1 or Schaeffers)and changed it every 5000 miles. It usually comes out looking as good as it went in and I've never had any problems. I have considered using Royal Purple in my daily drivers also.I use it in my race car and I dont believe it adds horespower as they claim, but I do think it does as great job of protecting the engine.

I ran Mobil1 in a Honda Ionce owedand raced for over 80k miles and never, NEVER had the cylinder head off.
Mobil1 is said to be using a cheaper base these days and so I've given up on it, but have switched to Castrol SynTec.

I believe in synth oils and have had very good luck w/them.
I ran (old) M1 in the Honda for 15kbefore a change, regularly, and it ran as good as the day I converted it over (100+k miles) when I sold her @ 187,000 hard run, rustymiles.

I change oil every 10k miles in my Mazda3, but do a filter change and top-offevery 5k. 'Good time to rotate the tires too while you're (he's) at it.
