Sirius Sat Antenna and window tint
2007 M3 - 2.0 - Sedan.
Here's a good question. Does anyone have a Sirius Satatlite (Non dealer installed). If so, where did you mount your antenna. I know where I shouldmount it, but I really cannot seem to hide the wires along the back window. Rubber is two thin. So, I put it in the centre on the rear deck inside the car. I have no signal problems to speak of. However. I was thinking of tinting my windows. Now, going with a good film, might create a problem. "Lifetime warranty" tints use metal in their films. I am wondering if this would affect the signal. Any ideas.

A metal film "can" affect your signal. I think the ceramic films do not affect the signal, and those are higher end than metal. my buddy owns a tint shop so I can find out for sure if you want.
Just got off the phone with him.
He said the best is do standard (low line) or a hybrid which "shouldn't" affect it. A full metal if anything would.
You could always mount it at the bottom of your glass on the outside and you wouldn't get ANY problems.

Thats what the local tinter here said as well. I don't want to go with the "low" line cause it probably won't last very long. I am not sure if he carries a ceramic style of tint. Will have to investigate. Don't want do put it on my trunk. I had thought of that, but every time I open the trunk, I run the risk of cutting the wire. Could put it under the moulding, but I think I tried that as well. Need some more thought on this. Won't give up the sat for tint. Thanks for the quick advise though.
Along the outside and by the antenna is where they recommend it. That's how I had it in my (ah hem!) Sunfire. However. Like I said before. The window rubber is too thin at the back window and I can't hide the wire in there. Thanks for the advice though.
By cutting a small notch in the roof under the OEM antenna you can put the sirius antenna directly behind the radio antenna. The notch is covered by the rubber boot around the OEM ant. so nothing is visible if you take it off. Several people have done that and then replaced the OEM ant. with a fuctional sharkfin. The fin covers the SAT ant. so no one knows it's there at all.
Icspots. No. I don't think I want to be cutting notches in anything. Not with just 2000 in the car. How does the shark fin install. Looks cool. Do they ship to Canada. Oh. How does the fin hide the sat ant. What about line of sight?
Thanks for the advise though.

I have sirius satellite radio in my mazda 3. I have my antenna up on the very front middle of my dash where the windsheild meets the glass.. it looks very clean.. almost like it was installed factory.. no wires showing or anything and it blends right in with the black dash
Yep. Thought about having the antenna in the front windsheild last night. I will probably end up doing that. You do get a better signal when it is at the rear of the car. May have to do that though. Now, I am just trying to find a good tinter in my town. Not much to choose from here. Zeibart, Go Glass and some place called Xtremeinc. They all look pretty run down. What ever happened to the big franchise guys. Who knows.
