RE: rims and sizes
OMG whatever you do be carefull when you buy rims. I own a Jetta III and i put 17s on it which fit my car now but my tires where a little to big. Im not sure about the Mazda 3's wheel well size but i think 17 maybe 18 stretching it. If your rim + tire are to big your gonna have a real problem with rubbing in your wheel wells and thats bad for everything tire + rim + suspension.

There are 5 door's out there with 20's! check cardomain for what al they have done. When i got mine i asked the guy if i could put the rx-8 rims on it and he said that there would be no problems and i would still have my wheel warranty since it was a factory rim. plus they are 18's over the stock 17's so thats pretty sweet as well.
I hope that helps and good luck

RE: rims and sizes
Sorry Iv'e been out so long. In case you were wondering... The 5 door model comes standard with 17's on it. while I was looking at mine i asked the manager at the dealer what i could do in the department of rims? He told me i could go an inch bigger than what the car came with. So coming with 17's i could go to 18's (obvious) So i started looking around and noticed that the rx8 rims are 18's. So i asked him about them and he was saying tha since it is only an inch bigger i could do it. AND!! since its an oem rim, when i bought the warranty on the rims he said that would be good for those as well...
