Default Question about OE turbo

I am thinking about switching from my Corolla to a Mazda 3. A lot of choices, I want a stick shift, mostly. I normally would not want a turbo, but would consider it. Does Mazda have a engine start delay feature that powers the oil pump before starting the engine - and runs the oil pump a minute or two after shutdown? That would help longevity. Of the turbo.

Nope, you would have to add that. It is a smart add-on though. Oil cooks in the oil feed line but Mazda has dealt with that since 1986 so it is generally not a problem. I recall replacing a ton (literally) of turbo's in the late 80's because of it. Not so much after that though. Rode hard and put up wet is a pretty accurate term when talking about turbo failure. It is generally a bad idea to get heavy into a turbo and cut the engine off shortly thereafter as heat soak will cook the oil in the oil feed pipe and slowly restrict oil volume to the turbo.

It's not good kicking in Turbo while engine is cold either.

No manufacturer has the best turbo protection. The best protection for a turbo would be a triggered oil pump accompanied by an addon filter coupled with a small trans cooler placed on or near the radiator where the cooling fan can cool it but not get the oil too cool as you don't want to hit the turbo with too much of a difference in temps. Since one end of the turbo is getting blasted by exhaust gases it gets pretty hot. You could actually turn the a/c on when your ready to park it to kick the fan on to cool the external cooler,or tie the fan to the oiler timer with a relay.

I am hoping an Amsoil sales type somewhere will have something.
