Power Steering Failure in 08 Mazda3
Mine is a 2007 Mazda 3 and at 49000km I just had the problem. Luckily for me restarting the car seems to have reset the pump for now. It happened while I was in Winnipeg and the service manager at Gerry Gordon was good enough to tell me it was a known issue but that parts were hard to come by right now.
My dealership says parts are on back order and they have 8-10 like mine waiting.

Funny thing happened to my 2008.5 mazda 3i, it has 22,xxx, and while at the dealer for a transmission problem (dealer replaced clutch) my power steering pump died. They replaced my pump with out telling me but still have an issue with the trans. When i asked what would cause my PSP to go, they shrugged there shoulders and said they didnt know. I'm already pissed off, because since day one i've been having issues with my beloved mazda. They wanted to charge me $988 for the clutch but then i got a hold of mazda corp. they saw i had issues with it before... New clutch, new pump, zero cost to me, but i still have an issue with the transmission grinding from 1 to 2nd at above 3k... You figure buying a new car, you wont have to worry about anything breaking on you for a while, but it seems thats not the case. My 86 Iroc-Z didnt have that many problems!?! WTF
Wow I thought that type of stuff only happened to me !!
Just know your not alone not that it helps.I have had
mine for a while but it is starting to make a bit of a whine
but I can only pray it doesn't but with my Luc k it will happen
the next time I drive .my warrenty ran out but I did get a extra
plan that covers the engine and drive train for a extra bit of cash
each month bit I'm not sure the ps pump falls in that catagory if
you know let me know please but since yjis is a common problem
mazda should be more understanding about this and not have messed
with you and should have fixed your car but what do u expect
after u leave the dealership they could care less about us but atleast
the 08 are still not a ford in Mazda logos lol j hope all goes well

1. All PS pumps on the 3's whine, they are electric and do have a different sound than other cars.
2. I believe the PS pump is under the bumper to bumper warranty, not the power train.
Also, from what I have not heard of a recall going out on this yet. My went out about 17k mi. and when I contacted Mazda they said they were aware of the problem but did not issue a recall.
Also, mine went out due to a bad electric motor, there was a dead spot in the windings and was causing it to bind and shut down, I don't think I've heard of lines clogging, what the hell would cause them to clog?
If your lines are clogging replacing the lines will only clear it out for a little while, you need to find the source of the gunk that is causing the clog.
