Power Steering Failure in 08 Mazda3

I have a 2008.5 Mazda 3 s Touring - 2.3 engine. Is thgis Steering pump failure integral to all versions of Mazda 3 2.0 and 2.3 engines or just isolated to one? Anyone know. I have not experiened this problem to date - with 16k miles. Bought it as a leftover from Dealer in April 2009.

I might be the first on this site with a 2009 failure
It is only showing the 2008 model on this forum, but I have just experience my 2nd power steering failure. It happened both times in the same way. I was waiting for my daughter to finish up soccer practice. The car was in park with a/c running, (I live in FL) you have to run the a/c. the steering failed and then returned after the car sat for about 45 minutes, until it was cooled off. Was this problem a warranty issue? and is there still a big wait for the parts? We are suppose to leave on vacation in 1 week and I really didn't want to hitch-hike to Ohio.

Hmmm, that's odd, I have an early build 2009 Mazda3 as well, and I'm quickly approaching the 30,000 mile mark with the original power steering system intact and operating flawlessly. Go figure.

Bull-oni. The problem is, at least mine was, the electric motor in the pump.
And also, you wont notice a thing wrong with it, it'll just go, no warning, like a bad case of the clap.

That is what happened, one minute it is working the next no steering. I have 28,000 miles on the car. and it only happens when it is sitting and idoling. the light comes on, I shut the car off wait 45 minutes for it to cool then the light goes off. They are telling me that it might be fixed by Thursday. We are suppose to leave on vacation Thurs. what do I do if it is not. I lose all the money i put out for vacation, for a problem this car has that they have been aware of for how long now 1 to 2 years. And what model and year do they plan on fixing this in.
