On my 3.0 ltr Mazda 6 Gas Engine it is required to run 5W20. Believe the oil change interval is 7500 miles.
I change mine twice a year with only 4-5,000 km on it.
I use the following synthetic oil. I do a lot of city driving, short trips.

I think its better to use 0-20 sintetic ,here in Europe we change the oil afther 20.000km about 12.000 miles, you can do more miles with the sintetic oil , i have diesel one and i change it afther 10.000 miles or 18 month, the new Mazda 6 Dieswel sky active does 12000miles too

2008 with 2.0L gas engine. I use Mobil 1 5w20 synthetic with Mobil 1 filter. Car has been running amazing since new. Change every 8k-10k miles.
