Default Moonroof

I am about to buy a 2014 Mazda 3 Hatchback i-Touring. I added the moonroof package. When the price was set, the salesman told me that they do not have the specific car with the moonroof on the lot, and that they would send the same car (minus the moonroof) to a third-party to install the moonroof at no additional cost (other than what I am about to pay the dealer for the moonroof).

Two questions: First, should I cancel the deal and have the dealer order me the same vehicle with the manufacturer-installed moonroof? Second, can I reasonably trust that the third-parties ("Car Spa" & "Sure Fit") will do a good job and that I will not have leaks down the road?

Thanks,
Uri

i dont like that deal. they are trying to sell you a car off their inventory. if they check around, they can find a car like what you want at another dealer, but they will not make as much money. factory moonroof has several changes made in the basic body from the factory. and dealing with a third party for warranty issues can cause problems. why not try another dealer who will look for exactly what you want?

I'm sorry, but I really don't think moonroofs/sunroofs are worth the hassle at all, ever.
Don't you have enough windows in the car? You have vents in the dash as well!
This is an extra expense not worth anything except for future leaks.
I'm sure some time in the future you will forget to close it and rain will come in.

both our cars have moonroofs. except for summer, i use them all the time. with climate control, it is a bit more of a problem to set the temp, but when it is cool outside, it is great to open the roof and have it pull air thru the vents. with a deflector, the roof can be cracked open and it will be very quiet, but it will still pull a lot of air thru the vents. also, if the roof is open, even if it is just tilted up in the back, open the right rear window a couple of inches, and you will feel a LOT of air swirling around, it will clear up the inside in a flash. i do think the glass roof is useless, i would prefer just a metal panel. a metal panel would also be lighter
