the 2.3l weighs more than the 2.0 by 200lbs and u have an auto bringing the weight up even more. Your car is too heavy to be getting the epa estimates. I have an 07 2.3 and it gets like 30 highway if im babying it

W/the auto, yeah, I'd say that's about right from what I've read. Try punching ita little harder so that it doesn't stay in the lower gears as long, even if the revs are higher between shifts. You should see a minorimprovement... 1-2mpg Besides, it's fun!!

I don't know what an 06 is supposed to get. I just hit 32 mpg last week in mine. The worst, my first tank, was 27. And I am for sure not easy on the gas. I'm not stomping on it but I do drive it quick. Besides, how do you not.

[sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=bustedsign.gif]That's funny. The ONLY speeding ticket I ever got, and I've been driving for over 30 yrs, was in my 3. Thesad part is I didn't even realize I was speeding.I couldn't figure out why they were pulling me over.

I posted this elsewhere, but what I'm saying is accelerate harder, 2/3-3/4 pedal and shift into the next gearassoon as you canbased the conditions. You don't have to drive faster, or run the tach up to red-line.That's not what I'm saying.
R&T magazine published this method several yrs ago and credited BMW engineers fordiscovering this as a way of increasing fuel mileage.
One member here (2.0L, ATX)though skeptical, tried it and claims he's getting better mileage and having more fun driving the car now too.
What have you got to lose?

I am the driver Virgin1 refers to above, I concur that if you can get to at least 3rd gear rapidly using the driving technique as described, your mileage will be better than driving granny (and yes, it is more fun). Though if your stuck in traffic, you may not be able to apply the technique.

You say your "mostly city" is 22. Well, you do have the 2.3, which is going to suck more gas than the 2.0. Anybody's bumper to bumper city mileage is going to be low, especially if you have the defrost running, which kicks the AC on.

My city/freeway mix is 27-28 in winter (roughly 2/3 freeway, 1/3 city).
