In post # 484 ,485 and 486 you can see how strong the ring magnet I installed years ago inside the transmission pan.

So with Summer right around the corner I am doing several pre-summer servicing to my Mazda. One of which is to rotate the tires and do a complete cleaning and detailing of the wheel wells.
The tire and wheel were in need of complete cleaning both front and back along with removing every object that became stuck in the treads. The traditional browning that forms on the back of the tires is always the area needing the most attention to cleaning. I don't use anything except car wash on the tires to clean them and a little simple green on the wheels. When finished I actually use Leather-Dress-It from Protect-It leather treatment on the tires instead of tire products. This process works for me for decades and I am not suggesting that anyone copies me. We all have our own beliefs what works best when detailing and cleaning our vehicles.

Looking at your photos, your rear (and presumably the front) sub-frame look like they are straight out of the factory. How do you keep them so fresh? Admittedly, mine Maz 3 gen 3 BM is eleven years old, bought with 45k on the clock and although officially garaged maintained by the previous owner, the underside does not look like yours.

Regarding the washing the underside of the hood, obviously you removed the sound panel; is removing the plastic body clips challenging? I have found it to be so!

Final question, what is the support / jack that you are using along the pinch weld?

I have not yet cleaned the undercarriage yet as that will be next week. In this thread there is several times I have posted this cleaning process that I do on a regular basis. My Mazda is not a garage queen and has been in most every normal driving road and weather from hot summer dusty months to the winter snow and mudded roads. And there are alos several pictures of my Mazda looking more like it was in an ioff raod event then a daily driver. LOL I don't use the factory hood insulators as they have proven for me to increase the under hood operating temperature. They do reduce the engine noise in the cabin . But I just turn the music up. LOL

In the pictures I keep on hand severely plastic tools and replacement plastic fasteners. very inexpensive on ebay , amazon or Harbor freight
I use large semi soft rubber protectors between the Quick Jack and the factory scissor jack use area of the under body.

Many thanks; wonderful and informative photos.

I have somewhat given up on ice hockey pucks on the pinch welds as I find the weld is like a knife through butter into the puck. With my trolley jack, and axle stands, I now use a wooden block with a weld sized slot for a snug load bearing surface.

But on a different topic, photo 484, what are you removing? Admittedly I have a manual and with any car I have owned, I have never removed the sump.

I am doing a transmission pan fluid and filter replacements. There are several I documented and pictured in my thread over the years. Using the advance search up top on your screen under "Search this thread" feature type in keyword "transmission" and the post all should come up to more easily find them.

Thanks for the instant reply. I have a manual so guess there is no filter in the transmission case. there is certainly nothing to remove unless the entire gearbox is removed.
