Mazda 3 engine swap
I have a 2012 mazda 3 skyactiv 6 speed manual. Board of the low performance and would like to know any engine that could be fit and turbocharged. If possible, any information on the speed 3 engine swap would be nice. I know its not practical but I would like to do it. Willing to spend about $10,000 on the whole thing.
back in the early 90's, i bought the forerunner of the mazda 3 speed, a 1988 mazda 323gt. 4dr sdn, fwd, 1.6 dohc, turbocharged. i believe hp was 132. i bought the car used for my son. he put over 100k on that car. the biggest problem you will have with the fwd turbo car is traction, or lack thereof. even with only 132 hp, it was easy to get wheelspin, even on a really good, dry road. in contrast, i also had an 88 323gtx, hatchback, same engine, BUT, the gtx was awd. i NEVER had a traction problem. both engines were identical, 10.5 lbs boost. i put 130k on the gtx, then sold it, and got a real beast, a 91 mitsubishi galant, vr4. 2.0 dohc, turbocharged, awd. the problem with fwd and power, is traction. right now, we have 2 99 millenias, 2.3 v6, supercharged, fwd. both are automatic, and i can get wheelspin pretty easily, even on a really good road. put in loose gravel, or wet, and the traction control engages a lot. you should check out awd cars, like the mitsu evo, or the subaru wrx. in real life situations, awd will get you off the line and thru the intersection a LOT quicker than fwd cars with way more power. also, there is a TON more bolt on support for the mitsu and subaru, and a lot more info.
