Default Mazda 3 Clutch issue

So I just acquired a a 2010 3, but unfortunately the clutch isn't engaging. To be more specific, I can go through the gears, but even with my foot off the clutch it doesn't actually engage. Before I go straight to dropping the transmission to replace the clutch, is there anything suggestions from more experienced Mazda owners out there that I can check first that are easier to get to and cheaper to fix? Thanks in advance!

Get someone to operate the clutch pedal while you view the slave cylinder, there may be a bad seal in either the master or slave cylinder causing the fluid to bypass.

So it turns out there was absolutely no clutch bad left.
