Major engine question if anyone can help
Alright, my gf's brother is a mechanic and said that if i purchased the mazda with a ford engine. it wasnt worth it. does anyone know if the mazda engine is built with a ford motor. I have the 07 mazda 3 5dr hatchback and now im more paranoid that im driving a ford motor. if the mazda 3 was built with a ford engine, what years do they have the ford engines with?

Mazda is a division of the FoMoCo. The ford name is stamped on most of the engine components, if you look on the dipstick or the bottom of the engine block you'll see. The positive end of it is, the car is assembled most likely in Hiroshima, at a stand alone Mazda factory. Mazda has higher and more strick standards than Ford. So though the Ford name may be stamped on your machine,it is MADE by Mazda.

So what do you have against Ford, my F150 is running strong at 85,000 miles, I sold my Explorer when I bought my M3 and it had 198,000 miles on it, my 1987 F250 had 397,000 miles on it when I sold it and my 1993 T-Bird has 188,000 miles on it and still runs great.

Nothing against ford at all. I had a hand me down 90' Thunderbird which lasted me for 285,000 miles. I love that thing to death. But when s*** hits the fan, it wasnt worth fixing and i had to finally put her down. But also, when gas wasn't as expensive i loved that car because i can afford it at that time. Now reason why i bought a mazda not just the reasonable gas mileage, but also the pure fun of driving.

The Mazda3 is on the same platform as the European Ford Focus, as well as the Volvo S40. I wouldn't worry to omuch about the engine being Ford parts. Mine's been fine after 55K miles.

Ford uses these engines on Focus, it may or may not have VVT on focus. (someone has a focus, please confirm).
My other car is a Mazda MPV, bought brand new in 2000, it'll reach 100,000 miles in a few days. It's a Ford V6 2.5L Duratec.
