Default Low Fuel Warning Light/Fuel Tank Capacity

My Low Fuel Warning Light came on, and I filled up just 10 miles later. It took 11.9 gallons.

According to the manual, the capacity is 14.5 US gallons.

My questions are,

1) Does everyone's fuel warning light come on when the car still hasabout 2.5 gallons in the tank?

2) What is the most fuel anyone has ever bought in one fill (without having run out of gas)? [Why do I ask? Wondering how low the fuel level can go without affecting the performance of the M3.]

I think I've put in 13 gallons one time, most of the time it's right around 12 gallons with the needle sitting on E. Pretty typical of cars I've owned, better to have that than have people running out of gas. The only time it would affect performance is if you sloshed the gas around in the tank (hard cornering or if it was REAL low maybe during acceleration) and uncovered the fuel pick-up.

The furthest past "0" that I have ever gone was 33miles, and on that instance, it only took 13.3 gallons to fill it up. IfIfill up right at "0", it only takes 11.5-12 gallons.
