Default Key fob problems.

So I washed my key fob in the washer and it doesn't want to work but the catch is that if I take the battery out and put it back in, it works for a couple minutes and then stops. So I bought a new battery and same thing happens. Any suggestions on what to do and what is wrong with it.

Have you considered opening it up and putting it in a cup of rice. It sounds like you have not done too much damage if it works occasionally. They say to put a cell phone in rice to dry it out, it may work on a key fob.

You have a corrosion battery drain. You have to open up the fob, remove the battery, get to the circuit board and clean it with CRC Electrical contact cleaner. It is a spray you can get from True Value. Spary it good and let it dry overnight, then try again. You can use this stuff to clean up poorly working TV remote controls too or ones where the battery leaked.

The other possibility is that the circuit board laminate has a resistive short or bad path, if that is the case, its junk.

Good luck,
