Default handling of sedan vs hatchback

I just drove a Mazda3-S sedan.
My dealer was trying to tell me that the hatchback actually handles better.
I find this difficult to believe.
I am still undecided about the car, so I opted not to also drive the hatchback at that time.

Any thoughts on this?
I have never heard of a hatchback handling better than a sedan.
Plus the sedan is 120 lbs lighter.

i drive a 2004 3s hatchback which handled incredibly great on the stock suspension. and it handles even better now with all the work ive done to it...

my younger sister will be getting a 2006 sedan in the next week or two, so ill test it out and compare and give you my educated response.

the hatch is over 100 lbs heavier and looks funny IMO....

id take the sedan with the factory wing anyday of the week...which is precisely why i bought one

i think the handling would be almost equal...with suspension work anything can handle alot better than stock...i doubt ud be able to tell a difference between a hatch on coils and a sedan on the same setup...(disclaimer - this is just a thought, i have never tested this out) = )

well you can always take the seats out of the hatchback as well as the spare tired and that would allow for the vehicle to way as much as a sedan haha.... but who would want to do that unless you are a racing maniac lol. true, any upgrade in suspension will greatly benefit your ride and that's the only real way to notice a difference between the two vehicles.
