jus got my 3 a couple of days ago. i freakin love it. its so much fun. got it with the automatic sports shifter cuz my mom and girlfriend would need to drive once in a while, they dont want to learn stick :.( o well its still fun. one thing i dont like is that the car doesnt put it into nuetrual when u let of the gas, so u feel the car engine breaking. not a big deal, jus not as good of gas milage i think . anyway i got a quick ques. how come bigger headers for the 3 arent street legal. i was reading the description from vibriant and they said they were for off street. i have a feeling the answer is pretty obvious but im not engine savy, but im trying dammit.

 

Hi Welcome to the board. You know I don't think (outside of Cali) that it's actually illegal to install the headers. I think the issue in a lot of states has to do with emission testing. I believe most aftermarket headers eliminate the first Cat (out of two) and I'm not 100% sure here, but think that theres a concern about passing an emission test with only one Cat. I'm hoping in time this will be addressed. Maybe some others (more informed) can chime in here and offer other reasons.

OTOH you're much like a lot of us here in that we love the 3 for what it offers but would still like to mod it up a bit.
