Yeah, old wives' tales die hard. Go figure.

I was actually taught the same thing. Learn something new every day.

I change mine every 3,000, just like the owners manual says, since I am on Schedule 2.

Three thousand miles for Schedule 2? Really? I'm surprised because page 8-6 of the Owner's Manual for my 2009 shows Schedule 2 requiring the oil (and filter) to be changed every 5,000 miles. I wonder what changed between the 2008 and 2009 model years.

Even my old fashioned LX9 doesn't need a change every 3K (SOHC V6). The 3K oil change is pretty much a myth these days.

Default As promised...

...it's Thursday evening and I just filled up and calculated my fuel economy. Prior to this tank my running average for 7,624 miles was 29.37 mpg (with a high of 32.78 and a low of 27.38 mpg). This latest tank took me 353.8 miles and required 11.97 gallons for the fill-up, yielding 29.56 mpg. Said another way, my first tank on 0W-30 came in with slightly better fuel economy than my running average.
