faulting MAF, 2005 2.3l with AEN CAI
I get repetitive faults on the MAF sensor. If in a not faulted state I can sometimes induce the fault with aggressive acceleration. Cleaning may clear it temporarily; in the last instance of cleaning it did not clear. Resetting electronically will also clear but it's easy to trip it again. My two-part question is will a replacement cure this nagging issue and secondly does something like a "high performance" unit like this Jegs deal (JET Performance 69149 JET Power-Flow Mass Air Sensors) do anything? FYI I've also installed a Borla exhaust on the old girl Thanks!

Really need to see a pic of existing. green solenoid still hooked up electrically (see pics)?
Take a pic of it.
Is MAF near a bend?
The Jet one seems interesting, me likey!
"Jet Power-Flow Mass Air Sensors get improved horsepower, low-end torque, and mileage from your vehicle by replacing the restrictive stock MAF sensor that limits the full potential of an aftermarket cold air intake. JET's tested design increases airflow up to 45%! These sensors are also compatible with aftermarket upgrades (e.g. TBI spacers and free-flow exhaust systems)."
However an increase of 45% is ridiculous just by changing maf, maybe you can increase the intake with this one to get to 45%?????????

MAF sensor faults can also indicate a air leak after the MAF or leaking EGR valve.
The PCM/ECU knows at a given RPM, engine load, timing etc there should be a given air speed past the MAF.
I had a vehicle with a faulty/leaking EGR valve, the PCM faulted the MAF thinking it was faulty because there wasn't the expected airflow past it.
Just another 2 cents ( 2 penny's) from me.

I had a similar problem when I first installed my MazdaSpeed (made by AEM) CAI. My '04 was still under warranty at the time. The dealer replaced the MAF twice before I didn't get any codes. It's been fine for 8 yrs now.
I suspect that the OE MAF was just a little more sensitive than it needed to be. Variations in manufacturing tolerances, but since I was running a Mazda sanctioned CAI, and the car was under warranty, they had to fix it..
