Default Emergency Parking Brake - annoying 2019 Mazda 3

Can anyone please tell me how to permanently turn off the emergency park brake from automatically engaging on every restart of the car? I see in the owners manual instructions to turn it off but if comes back on with the next restart. This is very annoying and I hope it can be turned off for good. Please help....

I don’t believe you can turn it off permanently. That said, you shouldn’t have to touch it yourself either. It should turn itself off when you have your seatbelt on and drive.

Why would you want it disabled permanently?

While I would rather have a manual brake, it is not near the top of my frustration list.

I think it is just a pain in the ***. I always wear my seat belt and your right it disengages when I put it in drive or reverse but it kind of makes the car jump a bit every time I take off. I just think there should be a way for me to be able to turn it on or off like many other "convenience" features. That's frustrating if indeed it can't be permanently disengaged.....

I hear you. There are many new features in the new Mazda3 that I wish we could do without. An example is the lane keep assist that I have not turned, if I ever have a real need for it, I want it active, however, it is frustrating that every time I drive close to the line it vibrates the wheel and pushes me back in the lane. I find that if I am in the left lane, with a wide median, I prefer to drive close to the left line and give the big trucks in the center lane a little extra room. Mazda's wisdom is that I should drive towards the truck!

Ain't technology great!

EPB is Electric Parking Brake, it is not just an emergency brake. It comes on automatically because it should be engaged when the car is parked, even with automatic transmission. The automatic release operates when you drive forward but not in reverse, presumably as a safety measure.

You cannot "turn it off", the lever/switch described in the instructions for the 2019> model is to manually operate the EPB (on or off).

Have you scanned it for fault codes?
