Dies when I put it in reverse

Default Dies when I put it in reverse
I have a 2013 Mazda 3 i. It has been running fine and it has newer battery. I drove it forward a few feet without a problem, but when I put it in reverse it died instantly. It dies every time it goes in reverse now. What should I be checking?

Did this issue happen straight after fitting the battery?

No. The new battery has been there since April.
