Busted My Bumper :(
Hi,
I recently backed into a pole with my 06 sedan [:@]
and i have some damage to my bumper only. Friends tell me I will have to get the whole bumper replaced. Any ideas as to how much the bumpers run for or if there are custom ones for the 3 for reasonable prices (or where i can view them online). I am from Ontario, Canada.
Thx

Have no idea how much it will cost but here's a few ideas:
Unless there is unrepairable damage to the exterior bumper cover... Try a local junk yard (vehicle recycling center) and buy the inner bumper struts and styrofoam liners.
If no luck found by trying this then call a body repair shop and request the price of the inner bumper parts.
Another idea is to call your auto insurance company and ask if they have any damaged 3's that they are preparing to send to their recycle partner companies. (I purchased xenon headlamp units for my MINI from my insurance company. I paid around $200 for the pair rather than paying over $800 per unit at a MINI dealer.)

very good ideas, also... if you need to have a new bumper. either an aftermarket bumper or a stock bumper will both run you about the same amount of money (give or take a little bit of cash).
Thanks for the tips! I am taking it into the dealer for a quote on Thursday, as far as I can tell there is no damage to the interior bumper parts, but there is a 2-3 inch tear in the metal. Hopefully they can fix that up somehow!
OEM bumper skins FROM the dealership will cost an arm and a leg. Dealerships always cost alot, if you order the bumper from Mazda yourself, then go to the dealership to get it painted and installed, it should save you a little bit of money.
Just curious, but wouldn't the insurance cover it under comprehensive minus your deductible? Unless you didn't want to go that route, due to higher premiums I suppose. I'm no insurance wiz, so I wouldn't know!! Just a random thought.
(if it even does) The bumper probaby only barely passes the $500 minimum to where most insurance companies can replace it and the premium increase would pass that in a year or so.
I got it checked out today, the dealership says $900. I am going to go to other places to see what they say. If I were to ask the insurance company if they have any extra parts lying around, would they try to up my payments because they know i had an accident?
Depends on who you have for your insurance carrier. Some companies are offering accident forgiveness in there policies. Allstate just introduced it claiming your policy won't go up just because you had an unfortunate situation. I don't know anyone who actually proved it one way or the other though.
I'm curious though, if this would be covered under comprehensive rather than collision. Comp is usually the cheaper deductible. Most people would be surprised how little more you'd be paying to lower your comp deductible. I dropped mine down to $50. Collision I have set at $500 though. That and liability are the money hogs.
It might be worth looking into and getting some info to see if its covered under comp, or for a $900 bill, collision if it would for some reason fall into that catagory and see if your premuims would go up or not. Ususally if covered under comp, the premiums don't really jump much if at all. But it does vary on what company you have. Like I said, I'm no insurance wiz, just the basics!
