I bought a 2006 Mazda 3 Sport with 56k miles on it. I had a full service done today which cost me £300 despite advertised cost of 300 because they were saying something about spark plugs being very expensive on this car...

They also called me saying that the front and rear suspension is very badly corroded and both suspension arms rear busheds worn out, NSF Suspension arm has excessive play in ball joint. NFS shock absorber leaked out.

To repair the front shock and ball joint they quated me £980 but they said it so badly rusted that if something breaks during repair they would have to charge more.

Is this normal pricing for such repair on this car? Or are they charging too much. Also has anyone done a complete suspension replace on similar model car? How much was it?

 

There is no way anybody over the internet can answer your question as we cannot see the car for ourselves. So, did you get scammed? Maybe.

The fact is, you bought a 13 year old car and it sounds like you didn't invest in a pre-purchase inspection. Sounds like you are getting exactly what you paid for.

 

My questions isn't about buying the car, I bought it from a friend for a few hundred I was fully prepared to pay for repairs as car has been sitting for month in rain outside. However it's worth for how nice it drives. My questions is based on the list of repairs I attached does it make sense for just the front parts to cost almost £1000?

If that's normal pricing then fair enough I just want to check with people who may have done similar repairs before.

 

This is in Australian dollars, lower control arms about $150 each side, shock absorbers, about $150 each x 4, labour about 6hrs @ $130/hr - $780( Mazda dealership)

Total $1600. Convert to Pounds, about 900 pound.

 

Thanks for the number crunch there that seems a lot more reasonable than £1000 for just the front. Getting the car looked at again today to get second opinions as well.
