Default Bluetooth phone connection issues

Hello Mazda Friends,

My 2016 Mazda 3 GS has a problem I can't seem to solve. For the past few months the speakers have become increasingly inaudible during phone calls. The sound is static-y, or goes quiet. I've had an iPhone XR paired to it for about 3 years and now have a new XR...no improvement with the new phone.

Key Details:
The speakers/sounds is fine on the radio or when playing bluetooth music from my iPhone.
The person I'm calling can hear me just fine.

Things I've tried:
Unpairing/Pairing
Rebooting the phone
Calling the Mazda bluetooth service 1-800 number

Things I haven't tried:
Changing my phone (can't justify it)

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to get this going again.

i’ve never fully actually performed an update. My operating system version is 70.00.335 NA N

Does that tell you if I am out of date or not? And is performing an update something I can do from home or do I have to go to a Mazda dealer for it?

(thanks for your reply.)

Probably your dealer updated your firmware at some point, 70.00.335 NA came out in May 2019 to address Echo issues in ND MX-5 and Black Screen issues in some other models. Mazda released two or three more updates after that but they're hard to find in the wild since their bots are wiping clean every downlink they'll find. Search for version 70.00.367 NA or 74.00.230 NA in Mzd 24/7 forum or visit your dealer.
