Default Am I burning oil? Mazda 3 2.0l sport 2006

Hi guys!

So I’ve been loving my Mazda since October 2017. It ran out of oil beginning of January. I filled her to the max and by 2nd March it was empty again.

Is this too fast? Is she burning oil, and should I sell it and find another one?

It’s a 2006 plate and has 81,000 on the clock.

Any suggestions welcome 😊

I have a 2006 Mazda3i with 5sp manual and 109k miles. It has never and still does not use oil. Not even had to add a little between oil changes which I do every 5k miles or so or once a year.

Yes you are losing oil by leak somewhere or burning oil thru the engine but it should be smoking if that is the case. Or at least I would think so but I am no mechanic by any means.

Thanks guys. Gonna change the oil breather and see if that helps as engine looks clean, doesn’t leave patches of oil and she doesn’t smoke either.

It runs like a dream too just a light oil smell when I slow down and drop into 2nd/1st gear.

The engine is toast; start shopping now for a Ford Duratec 2.5 liter motor, that way you'll have it when (notice I didn't write "if) your engine finally fails.

Thanks. I’ll get her looked at. Wouldn’t catch me dead in a Ford though 😂

You missed the point; the Ford 2.5 liter Duratec is a near twin of the 2.3 in your car (literally a 95% bolt in replacement), the thing is, the Duratec motor has significant internal upgrades which imbues it with far greater reliability and longevity.
