'23 Mazda 3 hatchback towing <500 lbs
2023, manual transmission 6 speed, front wheel drive.
Alright, alright. I know we're "not supposed to" in USA but this car is rated to tow (something like 2000 lbs) in other countries. It's the same car, same transmission, same everything- just isn't rated for it for warranty/liability reasons in the states.
Looking to tow a lightweight trailer (~175 lbs) and a lightweight moped/small motorcycle (225-240 lbs) for a grand total of 400-415 lbs. Maybe I am just trying to justify it to myself, but I feel like 400 lbs is not asking much of the vehicle. If you had three 150 lb passengers it would weigh more than this set-up. Don't think I'd be exceeding the 200 lb max tongue weight if the bike is on the lower end of the 200s, since the weight would be distributed across the entirety of the trailer.
Just wondering if anyone here has any experience towing light loads (<500 lbs) with this car and how it went. Never plan on ever exceeding 500 lbs, not trying to tow a small camper or golf cart or anything like that, I realize that'd be pushing it

Its not what other experience it is what the rated towing capasity stated for your model Mazda or any other car for that matter is for the USA. You can call your auto insurance carrier and pose the question to them. If you exceed the rated limits and get into an accident in the USA you will be 100% at fault. This is also something your insurance carrier will explain.
While the Mazda may be able to tow (the back end of the vehicle a load it is much different then passenger in the vehicle. Often misunderstood when thinking of towing capacity. Weight distribution has an effect on effective and safe handling and braking .
Not trying to discourage you but do your own research and not take the word of people that may also not understand completely what and why there are towing limits to USA based vehicles.
