I have heard of this. I have found a video that talks about it.
2012 Mazda 3 SkyActiv Review: Car Reviews
Scroll down page a bit--2nd pic, that's where video starts. Watch it between 2:00 and 3:30. They do say the automatic does not like to downshift (no Zoom Zoom there!)

I don't like it either . I have a 6 speed automatic transmission and i'm going around right hand corners in 3rd gear when I think it should be in 2nd. Use the manual override shifting-----mind as well have bought a standard, damn it! There is absolutely no fun with an automatic .

congrats on getting it fixed.

That is one of the reasons I prefer manual transmissions so you are able to decide when to shift. I have a 6MT skyactiv, I mentioned in another thread that low end torque was initial lacking, did sort of feel like turbo lag, but has since gone away after the first 1k miles or so.

There is actually a notice on this, for all November-December cars the vehicle was supposed to get a transmission "reprogram" BEFORE been sent to the customer. This dealer obviously did not do this.

Is there a sport mode for the transmission? Or is the only alternative shifting on your own?

My guess is that it's a software issue. Some cars like BMW have a transmission reset procedure that the owners can perform on their own.
