Okay, okay, when wild claims unsupportable by science, logic, physics, or even common sense are made, I get my dander up and have to rain on the parade. Terrorist it is.

I better watch out! J/K.

Updates:
21.5 mpg. Past the break-in period. I am above 700 miles. Would you recommend an oil change? Is it killing my tranny if I rev up to 5500 on second gear? I have done it once today and I do not plan on doing often. I understand it is not a high performance vehicle.

  • Would you recommend an oil change? No, many (most?) cars these days come from the factory with oil which is enhanced with some special break-in goodies. This oil is designed to stay in the the engine (in the case of your Mazda) for the full 7,500 miles.
  • Is it killing my tranny if I rev up to 5500 on second gear? No, your transmission is designed to be able to run up well past your engine's red-line.

To quote from the Owner's Manual of my Mazda3:

Break-In Period
No special break-in is necessary, but a few precautions in the first 1,000 km (600 miles) may add to the performance, economy, and life of your Mazda.
  • Do not race the engine.
  • Do not maintain one constant speed, either slow or fast, for a long period of time.
  • Do not drive constantly at full-throttle or high engine rpm for extended periods of time.
  • Avoid unnecessary hard stops.
  • Avoid full-throttle starts.

Long story short, it is highly unlikely you did any damage.

Thanks for reassuring the owner's manual advice. It is time to have fun.

Off topic,

I plan on tinting my car. What I read so far is Llumar and Formula One seems to be the best brand. They are both really pricey. My brother-in-law said he has a buddy whose friend does window tinting and can tint for a lower price than most other tint shops but he only uses 3M brand. I also read it is a favorite as well. What are your thoughts on the tint brand?

Can't offer any advice on tint; we don't need no stinkin' tint here in New Hampshire.

My 2.0 liter 2009 Mazda3 i Touring 5-Speed typically slots in within a mile per gallon of thirty in mixed driving, thirty-six to thirty-seven on the highway, and close to forty when I'm taking it real easy on the highway.
