Default 2010 Mazda 3 Oil Pan Replacement

I apologize for having posted this on another board; i am posting here also as it seems this board might be better at getting me assistance. I am looking for a "home" for working on our Mazda 3; i rely on folks like you to help me.

Mazda 3 Sedan 4 door 2.0L L4

My daughter has our 2010 Mazda 3 in Omaha (I am in FL). She had her boyfriend at the time change her oil last year.

She took the vehicle to the dealership a couple days ago and they said they were not sure, but the oil plug didn't seem properly installed and it might require a new oil pan for $1,350 plus tax.

I need to know if there is anything at all that would complicate the simple removal of the old and installing a new pan. Pricing appears to be $150 to $250 for the part, so unless the job gets highly complicated having to remove engine supports or exhaust pipes or something, it is a job for me to do when she brings the car home in a few months. I would appreciate someone who has one of these to look and see if there is anything that warrants that horrific dealership figure.

I appreciate your help very much, thank-you.

I would get a second opinion on the oil pan. If its a bad thread, it can be repaired & a new drain plug fitted.

Thank-you!

Maybe i am old-fashioned (and just plain old), but i always had the opinion that a dealership is where you go if you want to get - taken - (language edited by OP...). Of course, selling cars at a major dealership for a couple years back in the 1980's didn't add anything positive to my opinion of dealership practices, but i don't want to condemn the dealerships of today based on my old experiences. Though i never have attempted it (and therefor somewhat am nervous about trying), i wondered why not a retap/rethread. Still wondering if anything obstructs a simple removal and replace also, in case i messed up the retap attempt.

As a side note, THANK-YOU (yes, i am "shouting" that) i so appreciate you being there to help me. I still am awaiting my daughter to try the window with an obstruction. Daughters can be soooooo fascinating...
