I have to agree. In fact I will go one step further.
By using higher octane gas, which burns slower in an engine not designed for it, such as your 2.3L, you are allowing a percentage of it to pass through the system in a not-completely-burned state, and are therefore asking your pre-cat and cat work work extra hard. This also has a long term detrimental affect on the O2 sensors.
Unless you have heavily modified the engine of this car, and it doesn't sound like you have, there is absolutely no reason to run 91-93 octane in it.
And BTW: It is also not a wise idea to run any modern fuel injected car down to the bottom of the tank. The electric fuel pump lives in that tank also and relies on the fuel around it to help keep it cool... from burning up.
