2008 Mazda 3 - glove box damage
So, some little **** got into my car a few days ago. I had the glove box locked, and they not only broke the latch, but also pried it open to get inside, and damaged the trim bezel as well :/ So I can't even get into my glove box anymore, and I definitely want to get this fixed.
I have been looking at videos and pictures, and am fairly confident that I could do it myself, but I want to make sure before I go and try to track down parts.
I was thinking of going to an auto salvage yard to find the replacements, as pickings seem slim on ebay, plus I want to make sure that the color is a reasonably close match.
The trim bezel seems very easy to replace, and from what I can tell it looks as though the glove box is just held in place by a couple of bolts and should pop out easily? I do want to replace the lock, if possible, so that it can be opened by my car key, but since the latch is broken I'm not sure how that would work - its it possible to replace just the lock itself or is the lock/latch assembly all in one piece?
Finally, any other suggestions for getting hold of the correct parts? I'm hoping to save money by doing this myself, so I'd hate to throw that away on the wrong stuff! I've read that these parts can be interchanged on the 2007 and 2009 models, but wanting to make sure.
Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie!

Your correct, it is a fairly simple job. Is the glove box itself damaged or just the door? The door is a completely separate piece that comes off very easily. If memory serves, you should be able to swap the lock cylinder with ease also. If the compartment is damaged, remover the visible screws and give it a tug. Besides the screws, there are a couple of clips that snap the compartment in so don't expect it to just fall out.
The whole assembly isn't too bad to get. It would honestly probably be about what it would cost at a salvage yard, since trim parts are always crazy expensive...
